Bio: TransitionPDX is a community led response to the twin challenges of Climate Change and Peak Oil. It is based on the work of permaculture teacher, Rob Hopkins of Totnes, England, who developed the Transition Town model by taking permaculture principles into a social context. The Transition Initiative, which it has since become known, looks to bring communities together to look Peak Oil and Climate Change squarely in the eye and address this BIG question, “for those aspects of life that this community needs in order to sustain itself and thrive, how do we significantly increase resilience (to mitigate the effects of Peak Oil) and drastically reduce carbon emissions (to mitigate the effects of Climate Change)?” The Transition Initiative was developed in small towns in England, but has since spread round the world to countries including America, Australia, New Zealand and Japan and embraces towns, villages, cities and islands.
